Mangalore: Dakshina Kannada district stands first in Karnataka in a list for police atrocities and Suppression of human rights, said Justice M.F.Saldanha, a retired Judge of Karnataka High Court today.
He was releasing a fact-finding report on State Terrorism and Police atrocities in the coastal area, based on an enquiry by people’s tribunal, of PUCL which is an organisation devoted to civil liberties and preservation of human rights, in city.
Transparence International conducted a study recently on cases relating to 2008-2010 in police atrocities and human rights violations, maximum numbers of such cases were found in DK, followed by Udupi, Shimoga and Chikkamagalur districts.
Amnesty International has rated India as “5th worst country” with too many human rights violation cases to count.
Quoting Justice S.R.Nayak, State HRC Chairman, who issued 1211 orders against violations, not a single offender was ever punished in the state, Justice Saldanha stated.
