Mangaluru: Koraga Abhivriddhi Sanghagala Okkoota has demanded strict action against those who used derogatory remarks against ‘Koragajja’ (Daiva) on social media.
Staging a protest in front of the DC’s office in Mangaluru on Monday, Okkoota president M Sundara said that legal action should be taken against the person who had uploaded the derogatory posts on Facebook. The post is an insult to the entire Koraga community and their beliefs. It was an attack on the culture and tradition of the community members, he felt.
It is a tragedy that the derogatory remarks against Koraga community and Koragajja daiva are being carried out continuously, which is hurting the community members, Sundara added.
He said,”Koragajja Kola (The annual ritual performance where the spirit of Koragajja is impersonated by a person from the community)is performed in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kasargod districts. Those who perform the Koragajja dance in an obscene manner and insult Koragajja should also be stopped. A taluk level committee under the direction of tahsildar should be constituted to check such unlawful practices. A memorandum was submitted to Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil on the occasion.
