Bhatkal : Four persons have been arrested on the charges of cattle smuggling in Bhatkal. A lorry used for transporting the cattle along with 12 bulls, have also been seized.

The arrested are the lorry driver Abid Wahab (23) originally from Hubli Meghanagar, cleaner Ramesh Siddappa Urulugatti from Raichur, Mohammed Salman (22), Mohammed Awoob Abu Mohammed Hyder (24) and Saroj Hussain (25) from Bunder.

The arrest took place after the cops on night patrol intercepted the vehicle covered with tarpaulin following a suspicion. However, when the lorry sped instead of heeding to the directive, it was given a hot chase and finally blocked near JC College.

It is learnt the cattle were being smuggled to Bhatkal from Dharwad.
Police said the lorry was being escorted by a Chevrolet Tavera.
