Mangalore : The Kochi police have arrested four women from West Bengal who were wanted in connection with several thefts in jewellery shops in Mangalore and other places.
It may be recalled here that the gang had escaped with jewellery from Tanishq and Sultan Gold shops in Mangalore after posing as customers.
Those arrested are Mumtaz Begam (50), Yaseen Sheikh (54), Nebeya Biwi (45) and Amina Sheikh (55) from West Bengal. The four had been to Malabar gold showroom at Kochi when they were caught after a salesman suspected them.The cops have seized Rs 1.5 lakh in cash and some fake ornaments from them. The gang had in fact stolen valuables from the same showroom and when the CCTV footages were checked it was the same gang again and the police informed and the foursome trapped.
The police suspect that it were the same women who stole ornaments from jewellery shops in Mangalore and Bangalore.
Six months ago two to three women had robbed gold bracelet from Sulthan Gold and two diamond bangles from Tanishq, all estimated to cost Rs 8 lakhs.
