Bantwal : Veteran freedom fighter M D Shyamarao passed away on November 3, Tuesday morning at the Metro Hospital at Shivamogga. He was 97 years of age.

Shyamarao who hailed from B.C. Road was suffering from age-related ailments since some time and was staying at his son’s house in Shivamogga.

Born in B Mooda village of Bantwal in 1923, Shyamaraya Acharya was popularly known as M D Shyamarao.

During the course of freedom struggle, he had once even undergone imprisonment in 1946 and had spent two years in Shivamogga jail. Even after India secured independence, he was involved in several social welfare activities.
