Bangalore: The controversy over the appointment of the new Director General of Police of the state, has taken a fresh turn on June 1, Friday with the Supreme Court ruling in favour of Shanker Bidari, just a day after the state government appointed senior IPS officer Lal Rukhama Pachao as the new DGP.
It may be recalled here that earlier the Karnataka High court too had upheld the ruling of the Central Administrative Tribunal in cancelling the appointment of Shanker Bidari as DG, IGP. But on Friday, the Supreme Court has dismissed the Higher Court orders.
The Karnataka High Court earlier while upholding the CAT ruling had on the basis of the report termed Bidari as a demon in human form and more cruel than even Saddam Hussein and Mohammad Gaddafi. The Supreme Court in its ruling has now said that it was improper to term Bidari so.
Bidari is facing the allegation that widespread atrocities had been committed on innocent women during the anti-Veerappan operation by the Task Force headed by him.
