New Delhi: In a view to keep traffic smooth flowing across the country, Union Minister of Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari announced on Wednesday that the toll tax on national highways across the country will be suspended till November 11.
In a tweet, Nitin Gadkari said, “It has been decided to suspend Toll across all National Highways till midnight of 11th November to facilitate smooth traffic movement.”
It has been decided to suspend Toll across all National Highways till midnight of 11th November to facilitate smooth traffic movement.
The decision comes in wake of the government’s move to ban ₹ 500 and ₹ 1000 notes with immediate effect. The unprecedented action that was announced last evening has been met with a mixed response, especially with both banks and ATMs closed for the next two days. Only denominations up to ₹ 100 will be legal and can be availed at banks and government holdings in exchange for the existing ₹ 500 and ₹ 1000 notes.
The government says it is ensuring different ways to keep things moving in the same order and the suspension of toll tax is one of them.
However, the suspension will only include the government run tolls under the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). There has been no comment if the toll tax on tolls run by private operators have been suspended as well.
