Bangalore: Tourism minister and mining lord of Bellary, Gali Janardhana Reddy, tired of criticism in public of his activities, has now declared that he has stopped all mining activities in Karnataka. He has promised to take an active part in social welfare activities.
When K.C.Kondaiah was speaking in the Upper House on Tuesday on a subject of public importance, Reddy intervened to say that whatever he does ends in a dispute, and opposition members criticize him. So he decided to say farewell to mining works hereafter. But he added that he would continue to mine in Andhra across the borders.
He said he was hurt by allegations made by opposition and took inspiration from (M.C) Nanaiah and others who advised him to take up social service as a minister and MLC.
He had wanted to bring large-scale industries in Bellary. A Vijaya Nagara Steel Industry at a cost of Rs.35, 000 crores on the anvil. But he had backed out on account of continuous allegations and criticism which pained him, he added.
