Mangaluru : The Ganesha Chaturthi festival is being celebrated across the district in a simple way amid the Covid restrictions imposed by the state government.
Ganesh idols are installed at 157 places in the city. Security is tightened in the city in the wake of Ganesh Chaturthi and Ganeshotsava.
The 74th Public Sri Ganeshotsava at Sanganiketan under the Keshava Smriti Samvardhana Samiti inaugurated by lighting the lamp On Friday.
Maha Ganapathi Homa, 5000 Coconut Palla Pooja, Maha Pooja was held at the Sharavu Sri Mahaganapati Temple On Friday.
Police are also maintaining a strict vigil across the city to ensure all guidelines are adhered to. As already stated by the government no procession or cultural programmes are allowed. Organisers of the public events will have to produce Covid-19 negative report as well as certificate of vaccination.
Devotees who arrive to take Darshan of the idol should wear a face mask and maintain social distance compulsorily. The statement of the police also informs the public to install the idol in such a way so as not to disturb public and vehicular movement.
Three DCPs, five ACPs, 24 PIs, 62 PSIs, 1,222 ASIs, personnel, six battalions of CAR and five battalions of KSRP are deputed on duty in order to maintain law and order.
