Mangalore : In a significant judgement the fourth additional district and sessions court on September 21, Saturday imposed life imprisonment on two persons convicted of raping a 15 year old girl from Odisha at Mangalore Central Railway Station. The incident had taken place on July 14,2010.
Judge B.K. Naik who pronounced the judgement also slapped a fine of Rs 25,000. The two will have to be in jail for two more months in case they do not pay the fine.
Those convicted are K. Ashok, an employee of a railway contractor, and Nishit A, a mechanical helper in Southern Railway.The court while convicting the two on September 17, had acquitted Abdul Sattar Ayub, a vendor at the railway station, for lack of evidence.
The search is on for prime accused Shameesh, a porter and sweeper from Payyanur who is still missing.
The minor girl who worked as maid in a house at Kadri had tried to escape as she wanted to return to her family. The four had approached her when she was in the railway station. They promised to show her the Goa bound train but raped her in a stationed train. The semi conscious girl who was found was counseled by Child Helpline.
The witness of the girl and forensic evidences helped in nailing the convicts.
