Mangalore: The 3 gangsters held recently in a Ganja sale group, were now sent to judicial custody by a local court, on Wednesday.
SI(Urwa) P.Shetty rounded up Daakappa (35), Shivappa (30) of Anantpur, and Punith Shetty of Shaktinagar for illegal possession of Ganja (800 grams) in a Maruthi Zen Car, with 5 mobile phones, and interrogated the drug peddlars at length. The car was used extensively for Ganja marketing in 4 colleges of Mangalore.
The drug addiction has gone up considerable in college areas, the police informed, and confirmed on drug abuse going beyond control in areas where rich youths live.
A person holding Ganja on his person is liable to be sentenced to 6 months of imprisonment and a fine of 10000. If the same person has more than 1kg.of Ganja in possession, he will be charged fines of Rs.1lakh and awarded 10 years in jail; a police officer informed the press. It is a punishable offence to use illicit drugs, he added.
