Mangalore : The odour of leaked gas in air panicked locals of several areas in the city on September 20, Friday.
The people suspected the gas leaked to be leaked from the Baikampady industrial area, while others suspected it from MRPL. But the source of gas leaked has not been confirmed.
As per the MRPL release, it stated that there has been no sign of gas leakage in its premises. The environment department engineers of MRPL are also working to identify the gas floating in city with their specialized meters to assist Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB).
The residents of Yeyyadi, Kankanady, Kulur, Maryhill and Baikampady have complained of the gas leakage odour.
DC N Prakash has also issued instructions to the MRPL to carry out the inspection in the premises and surroundings, based on public complaint.
The fire fighting personnel’s are pressed into action at various places, but no gas leakage has been spotted.
The chief fire officer Varadraj urged the public to remain calm and avoid using combustible substance. Inform the department if leakage has been detected, he added.
