Udupi: A book written by Gayatri Navada on the foot prints of feminism in Coastal Folklore literature was released on Monday by Central Academy awardee Vaidehi (Ms. Janaki S. Murthy), at the Hotel Kediyoor Rooftop assembly in town.
The programme was arranged by RGP Research Centre, Kannada department of Tenkanidiyoor Government College, besides female writers in Kannada locally.
Releasing the thought – provoking book, Vaidehi observed that women in the coastal region had stood up to their men who dominated them and were stronger as compared to earlier times, laden with superstitions and unhelpful traditions.
Feminism in the West Coast lines was always constructive and protective. Women had time and again showed their inner resilience, to adapt to new conditions.
Gayathri’s book had focused on the tough lives of women on coastal region. HOD at the
Government College, Dr. Gananath Yekkar welcomed the learned gathering. Gayathri Navada (author) made introductory remarks. Heranje Krishna Bhat of RG Pai Research Centre proposed a vote of thanks.
