The Nimishamba Temple in Srirangapatna of the Mandya District is a famous pilgrimage site. On the banks of the river Kaveri, a village called Ganjam is worshiped by devotees of Lord Nimishamba, who is associated with Sri Chakra. This shrine was built by the royal family of Mysore.

When the Sumanaskas decided to perform the yagas as the orders of Lord Shiva, they were entrusted with the protection of the sage. When the Janu and Sumandala sent their army to destroy this yaga, the sage freed it, and in the ensuing battle, angry Janu and Sumandala defeated the Muktakas, so that the Muktaka Muni prayed to the goddess Parvati. Thus the Yagya was completed, so that the happy Muni, happily named the Nimishamba. Thus the goddess is given the name of Nimishamba.
