Mangaluru: The golden jubilee celebrations of Govinda Dasa College in Surathkal will be held from February 24 to 27.
Briefing reporters here, College Principal Dr Muralidhar Rao said that an exhibition will be held. As part of the exhibition, students from science, commerce, art, computer science will display the project prepared by them. In addition, there will be a stamp, book and coin exhibition along with an expo of products of self employed persons.
Kateel Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple hereditary priest Venkataramana Asranna will bless the occasion. Mumbai FA Bank director Ajith Mairpadi will inaugurate the programme. Hindu Vidyadayini Sangha president E Jnardhan will preside over the function. Art and cultural study centre, NSS and community health centre of Srinivas Dental College will be inaugurated on the occasion.
The principal said that ‘Ranga Sambhrama-Samskrithika Vaibha’ will be held on February 25. MLA Mohiyuddin Bava will be the chief guest. Saxophone by Chandrashekar, musical programme by Satish Surathkal and team will be held. Old students will present a dance programme in the afternoon followed by classical dance by Bharathi Suresh, Sooryanarayana Rao, Chitrakshi, Shailaja Shivashankar Bhat and Mamatha Karranth. A Yakshagana performance by Poornima Rai and team will be staged between 4 pm and 6 pm.
The golden jubilee celebrations will be held on February 26. Indian Overseas Bank former CMD M Narendra will inaugurate the programme.
Karnataka Bank MD Mahabaleshwara M S, Akkamahadevi Women University VC Prof Sabiha Bhoomi Gowda will be the chief guests. A souvenir will be released on the occasion.
The annual day of the college will be held on February 27.
Dr Muralidhar Rao said that as part of the golden jubilee celebrations, a series of development projects will be taken up in the college. They are renovation of laboratory at a cost of Rs 20 lakh, setting up of a language laboratory at Rs 15 lakh, renovation of classrooms, administrative office, and roof over hall of PU College at a cost of Rs 20 lakh.
Further, to develop skills among students, a skill development centre will be established at a cost of Rs 5 lakh. The college is also planning to set up student welfare fund and start mid-day meals at a cost of Rs 5 lakh.
