Bajpe: In a meeting, called by airport authorities to raise the volume of air cargo exports by various airlines held recently it was suggested by the cargo airport management to the industrial and agricultural stakeholders that Mangalore International Airport (MIA) could bear a weight of 240 tons a month of vegetables, fruits, engineering goods and other manufactured items or products for exports. The merchants handling imports and exports were told that everyday 2 tons of cargo could be exported to the Arabian Gulf countries by certain selected airlines going to those countries daily.
This cargo burden could be increased to 8 tons a day, the stake holders were tolt, by making an agriment with different airlines going west ward to other countries on Europe, Middle East and American countries as well.
Mohammed Amin, president, Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry stressed on the need to popularise the air cargo facility and encourage the local businessmen to make optimum use of it to ship their products to the Gulf.
