New Delhi : Today, the search engine turned 14. In keeping with tradition, Google has posted a birthday Doodle in form a chocolate birthday cake that reads “Google” both before and after the birthday cake is carved up. The cake has 14 candles placed on it.
Last year the company turned its home page into a birthday party scene. Last year the logo was adorned with party hats sitting behind a table with gifts and a large white birthday cake with 13 candles.
Earlier, the company used to toot its birthday horn on September 7 – the day it was incorporated – but September 27 is now the official day of celebration.
Stanford University graduate students Larry Page and Sergey Brin, started working on a search technology in 1996 based on a new idea, but it was not until 1998 that they formalised their work and created Google.
The company says its mission is to organise the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.
