Mangalore: Student of Swaroopa Adhyayana Kendra (self study centre) set aside their exam blues in SSLC finals coming in weeks hence, and went dancing, singing, and even painting picture, to exhibit their talents.
This happened in Town Hall on Tuesday, Jan.31 evening. These boys and girl, however, know their text subjects well, in science experiment, maths theorems, history dates, and even English poems.
So they were not tom-footing their elders. They had Kannada grammar too on the tip of their tongue.
That was under guidance and innovation learning methods evolved by director Gopadkar, whose brainchild the center is. It aims to break the barriers dawn, on conventional education system in which drop-outs are increasing day by day for want of enthusiastic follow-up.
The school system outside Kendra is limited to 6 subjects exams, and a marks card, all manipulated by powers that be. Gopadkar argues in an unconventional way on education and studies, aiming at change, development, experimenting, and creativity hidden among students.
It is better not to understand than to understand, he explodes. The audience was left awe-struck by the intelligent student demonstrations in memory skill and educational dances they acted out.
