Mangaluru : The State government has declared Gram Panchayat elections as there was no choice. The government did its best to postpone the polls, Udupi/Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje said.
Briefing reporters, on Saturday, she said, the government tried to postpone BBMP election, but the Apex Court didn’t allow it. To escape similar situation, the government decided to declare Gram Panchayat elections, she said.
Gram Panchayat won’t give clear picture of strength of political parties, but it is good opportunity to those who had worked in Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. To motivate BJP supported candidates, Union Ministers Ananth Kumar, D V Sadananda Gowda and National Vice President B S Yedyurappa will carry out campaign in the State, she said.
Gram Panchayat President gets power of five years long enough to develop a village. Moreover, women have got 50 per cent reservation. BJP workers and leaders are committed to win most number of seats in the election, which would help for upcoming Zillla Panchayat and Taluk Panchayat polls.
People want change in the district. There is allegation of corruption behind transfer of officials.
The State government has achieved zero in two-years. No development can be seen in important departments like revenue, PWD, agriculture etc. Illegal lottery, Matka and illegal activities are increasing in the state capital Bengaluru itself. The officials are just thinking about Haftha, she alleged.
