Udupi : Superintendent of Police Nisha James, said on Friday that a proposal had been submitted to install signal lights on NH66 and NH169A in Udupi district.
Speaking to presspersons during the phone-in programme held at the District Police Office here, Ms. James said that a proposal had been submitted to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to install the lights at Katapady, Ambalpady, Santhekatte, Padubidri, Balaipade, Ambagilu, near Sangam in Kundapur, Tallur, and Hemmady.
A proposal had also been submitted to the National Highways Division of the Public Works Department, overseeing the widening of NH 169A to install the lights at Malpe Junction, Karavali Junction, Bannanje Junction, Shiribeedu Junction, Kalsank, MGM College, Syndicate Circle, Tiger Circle, and MIT Circle, here, she said.
To a query, Ms. James said that it was necessary to lift the wreckage of Suvarna Tribhuja, which had sunk off Malvan coast in Maharashtra on December 15, 2018.
The wreckage was traced by the Navy on May 1, 2019. This would help in doing its physical examination.
Since it was not possible for the Navy to lift the wreckage of the boat, it had become necessary to take government help to lift the boat with the help of a private agency, she said.
Physical verification of the boat was possible if the wreckage was lifted from the sea. It would be only possible for the maritime experts to analyse the speed, direction and the possible cause for the sinking of the boat, Ms. James said.
Wearing of seat belts was compulsory while driving cars, so too was wearing of helmets while driving two-wheelers. An awareness drive on it would be launched in the district, Ms. James said.
