Mangalore: Karnataka State Tailors Association (KSTA) organized a Dakshina Kannada district Convention and distribution of government pension scheme card was held at September 20, Tuesday.
Speaking after inaugurating the event, district in-charge minister J Krishna Palemar said that tailoring is a respectful profession. These are the people who increase the reputation of every common and man of high position too.
He said that around 610 scheme cards have distributed to the members of Dakshina Kannada and 593 members of Udupi and total of 2074 cards from the around.Speaking about KN Taylor he said that KN Taylor apart from being tailors by profession, he is a great artiste and has built his own image, and hence tailors must not have inferiority for their profession.
Guest of honour Deputy Speaker N Yogesh Bhat said that the problem of tailors regarding the Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana should be extended to them and it has been raised in the budget meeting.
He also said that the tailors association, have gained a big success by getting the government pension scheme and it will be discussed in the assembly to increase to 10 years.
The government has been giving Health Insurance Scheme for tailors and around 496 names have been registered so far more number of tailors must utilize this benefit, he added.
Presiding over the event, district president of the Karnataka State Tailors’ Association Ramesh Madur said that he welcomed the decision of the government to include tailors within the ambit of the New Pension Scheme.
Those tailors, who are working on commission basis, are the worst hit as there is no job security or social security for them, he said.
Other major demands of tailors include scholarship for their children, maternity allowance to women tailors, housing schemes, financial aid for marriages and loans with low rate interest to start self-employment units, he added.
