Mysuru: Freedom fighter H S Doreswamy, on Monday, expressed his displeasure over certain schemes of the government saying that they are making the people unemployed and helpless. Addressing the gathering during the 69th Sarvodaya Day, organised by Gandhian Studies Centre of the University of Mysore (UoM), Doreswamy said, the government should encourage the people to work rather than make them depend on schemes.
“I have been urging the state government to allot three acres of land to the landless poor in rural region and help them attain economic self-reliance. Only a section of the people are enjoying the wealth of the nation while the poor remain poor. Political party leaders get votes from them but fail to provide them facilities. Money power has created inequality, killing the poor,” Doreswamy said.
Recalling the death of Mahatma Gandhi, Doreswamy said, Nathuram Godse, who assassinated Gandhi, had participated in a rally organised in Bengaluru just a fortnight before the assassination. “Godse was facing several charges during his visit. A few Hindutva advocates did not approve Gandhi’s sathyagraha over the difference of financial compatibility between India and Pakistan during the Partition, thus he was assassinated,” he said.
At a time when the country is celebrating Sarvodaya Day, the world is observing ‘World Peace Day’, but it is impossible to establish world peace with competition between nations. UoM in-charge VC Yeshwanth Dongre, Registrar R Rajanna and Gandhi Bhavan Director S Shivarajappa were present.
Freedom fighter Surendra Koulagi said, the communalists are trying to hijack the thoughts of Gandhi, B R Ambedkar and Jayaprakash Narayan, who favoured social revolution in the country.
During an interaction session, organised at Ideal Jawa Rotary School, as part of Sarvodaya Day, he said, the leaders strived to build the society based on equality, but the communalists are twisting facts to misuse them. “It is not possible to become a Gandhian, if one rolls the wheels of a charaka and Prime Minister Narendra Modi should understand this. Today, 90% of khadi clothes produced in the country are fake and Modi, who failed to launch a movement against fake khadi, cannot become a Gandhian if he poses for the cameras with a charaka,” he said. Farmers leader K Basavaraju and professor Muzaffar Azadi were present.
