Mangaluru : The State government is considering relaxing the norms for transplantation of organs, said Health and Family Welfare Minister U.T. Khader here on Thursday.
Speaking at a function organised by the Kidney Patients’ Association, Mr. Khader said transplantation of kidney, rather than dialysis, was a permanent solution for those with renal failure. “But it takes a long time for the recipient to get a kidney …. there is also along list of procedures to be followed before the transplant,” he said.
Mr. Khader said he has already initiated discussion with experts to relax norms for organ transplant.
Earlier, kidney transplant expert Vivek Pathak expressed the need for maintaining a healthy diet and consumption of adequate water to avoid renal problems.
Meanwhile, chairman of Zonal Coordination Committee of Karnataka for Transplantation, G.K. Venkatesh, took part in the World Kidney Day celebrations held at the Yenepoya Medical College.
