Mangalore : Social activists M G Hegde in the press meet held at Press Club on July 19, Friday said that Government of India has recently started issuing Unique Number for each citizen. Though it is good decision to issue an identification number with all information but delay in issuing it is regretted.

Hegde said that there are several cards issued by the Central Government, State Government and Private organizations including Ration card, LPG Gas supply book, voter ID, pan card, passport, driving license, RC Book, NPR, Bank Pass Book, Old age card, railway concession card and other for the benefit of individuals living in India. But every individual has to struggle and bear all the harassment of the officials.

Even after 68 years of Independence of final Indian Citizenship card is not yet approved by both Central and State Government of India and we are still struggling to prove our Nationality in an around the city, state and country.

He urged the Government of India to assure the citizen that the information available in the Adhar Card or other cards must be kept confidential, so that any other Nation or private agency or anti- social elements do not issue or take advantage of such informations.

The Government must also constitute an independent department which may be called as ‘Card Issuing Authority of India’ and every State and Union territories have branches. All the cards must be simplified and issued by the local authorities under the surveillance of Card Issuing Authority of India.

Simple methods to be adopted for change of address and other related information in the said card. ‘Single Window System’ that is working under one roof must be adopted for issuing all kinds of the cards, he said.

Every new born child born to an India Citizen parent must compulsorily be given Indian Citizen Card at the time of issuing of birth certificate, he said.
