Mangalore: It is already a known fact that several remote areas in DK and Udupi districts are suffering particularly during monsoons in the absence of pedestrian bridges, to cross rivulets and storm waters. There is good news for people of such villages as the government has released Rs 3 crores and Rs 2 crores for DK and Udupi districts respectively for construction of foot bridges.
Informing this to reporters here, Coastal Development Authority Chairman Nagaraj Shetty said the Authority had sent a proposal for nearly 430 bridges at a cost of Rs 15 crores and added the government has in the first phase released Rs five crores in total for the two districts. He also added that 142 bridges will come up in DK and 45 in Udupi district.
He said the CM has promised to release the remaining amount at the earliest.
Speaking on the rehabilitation package for people in Naxal affected areas like Kudremukh, Belthangady and Karkala, he said a Rs 100 crore package has been created and each and every family is contacted and taken into confidence.
Clarifying that there is no force he said several families were willing to accept compensation.
