Mangalore: The government has announced the reservation for the post of Mayor and Deputy Mayor with the five months remaining for Mayoral elections.

The government stated that Mayor has been reserved for a general category (woman) and that of the Deputy Mayor for general category.

The government published a gazette notification related to reservation in all 11 city corporations in the State on September 25, 2014.

Under Rule 73-A of the Karnataka Municipal Corporations (Election) (Amendment) Rules 2014 and issued guidance under order no. UDD 92 MLR 2014 of August 27, 2014, government allots the offices of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor to various categories for the 17th term in respect of 11 corporations.

Previous year, the reservation was reserved for general category and that of Deputy Mayor for general category (woman) and Mahabala Marla and Kavitha were elected accordingly.
