Mangalore : The central government has sanctioned a sum of Rs 50 crore for the development of coastal tourism circuit in Karnataka including development of 23 beaches in Dakshina Kannada District, Udupi District and Uttar Kannada District said Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim.
He was speaking at the meeting held to discuss on development of coastal tourism circuit at deputy commissioner’s office on October 28, Tuesday.
DC also said that, the government has sanctioned the amount of Rs 13 crore for the development of beaches including Someshwar beach at Rs 3 crore, Ullal beach at Rs 1 crore, Surathkal beach at Rs 2 crore, Thalapady beach at Rs 3 crore and Sultan Battery beach at Rs 2 crore within six months.
He also said that, government has appointed as the agency known as M/s Darashaw & Co Pvt Ltd for implementing the project.
Surathkal Beach: Panambur Beach Tourism Development Project Chief Executive Officer Yatish Baikampady said that, there is need to install flood lights instead of high mast lights at Surathkal Beach as proposed by Darashaw Company.
Someshwar Beach: Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Tulasi Maddinneni suggested to set up a parking space on the vacant land and establishing of amphitheatre near the entrance of the beach where defunct quarry existed.
Ullal Beach: Maddineni said Ullal Beach must be developed as a place where it is ideal for the family members to spend time. There is necessary to develop a park for children too. However installing benches as proposed by Darashaw is not required.
Thalapady Beach: DC said that beach must be installed with High mast lamps and life guard watch towers. Apart from it, road connectivity to Talapady beach needed to be repaired.
Sultan Battery Beach: Maddinenni said that Sultan Battery beach need be developed for the local people and must facilitate movement of vehicle from one side to another.
Yathish suggested the officials to implement Jet Skis instead of speed boats for rescue operation since 40 per cent rescue operations have been done with the help of jet skis in Panambur.
DCP Dr K V Jagadish, Superintending Engineer T S Kaladagi, Additional Deputy Commissioner Sadashi Rao were present.
