Udupi : CM D. V. Sadananda Gowda, speaking opn the power shortage in the state said that the government will conduct a study into the impacts of the environment after the second unit of UPCL unit
He also said that the government will provide conditional approval and insert a clause to the company stating that it do not harm the environment. He said that the state is facing shortage of power and has to meet the demand for electricity.
He assured that the government will look into environmental related issue before permitting for the establishment of a second unit.
The CM said that the State is planning to follow Maharashtra as the model, where power is being generated from the bagasse produced in sugar factories. If the state succeeds, it will be able to generate 1000MW of power from molasses discarded by sugar factories all over the state, he added.
The discussion with Raman Singh, the chief minister of Chattisgarh, have been successful since he has agreed to supply 400MW of power to Karnataka although only 200MW is being supplied because there is no extra power supply grid.
