Mangalore : A demand for a separate Railway Division for Mangalore was heard at the joint meeting of the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Udupi District Railway Yatri Sangha held at KCCI Meeting Hall here on August 21, Wednesday.
The meeting also discussed the various demands pertaining to railways of the region. RL Dayas, President of the Sangha said the elected representatives of the region have never been vociferous enough as the Kerala leaders in pressurizing the government to fulfill the railway demands of the region.
He also stated that had they been determined, then several of the demands would have been fulfilled.
The meeting urged the government to provide stops for the Mangalore Madagaon inter-city express train at Byndoor, Udupi, Kundapur, Suratkal, Ankola, Honnavar, Kumta and Bhatkal. A stop was also urged for the CSTM-Mangalore Super Fast train at Dadar. Steps were also requested to have a Bangalore-Mangalore train via Hassan at the earliest.
It was also decided to submit appeals to the Railway Minister and the officials concerned in this regard.
