Mangalore: A seminar on former defense minister and senior socialist leader George Fernandes held at Town Hall in Mangalore on June 4, Monday has demanded the naming of the central railway station in Mangalore after Fernandes.
The seminar was organized by the George Fernandes Vichara Vedike in connection with the 82nd birthday celebrations of George Fernandes.
Other resolutions passed were to building a park in his name; name the road from Karambar to old airport road after Fernandes and to include a chapter on the leader in school text books.
Deputy Speaker N Yogish Bhat, who inaugurated the programme, recalled the contributions of George Fernandes to the nation as a socialist leader and also during his tenure as a defense minister. Dr M P Nadagowda, State President of JD(U) presided over the function.
J C Madhu S Swami, former MLA, Chikkanayakanahalli, Michael B Fernandes, labor leader and former MLC, Thonse Jayakrishna Shetty, Jayaram Shriyan, and others were present.
The function was attended by only a handful of people dampening the spirit of the organizers.
