Mangalore : The workers of Gram Panchayat staged a protest demanding resolution of their long-pending problems related to wages, in front of the Zilla Panchayat office near Urwa Store on Feb 15, Tuesday.
The protesters warned the government to hold indefinite hunger strike if their demands were not met, during the protest staged as part of the Zilla Panchayat Chalo organized across the state
Addressing the protestors, Yadav Shetty, the president of the DK District Gram Panchayat Workers Association said that, promotion percentage of bill collectors has been increased from 40 per cent to 70 per cent. But the seniority criterion has not been followed in the promotions.
He also urged the government to pay the dearness allowance in lump sum amount instead of giving it with monthly salary.
The minimum wages has been decreased to Rs 4999 from Rs 5799 considering job as semi-skilled. He urged the government to withdraw the order immediately.
