Mangalore L Konkani Nataka Sabha has decided to organize a unique singing contest in commemoration of the golden jubilee of the Konkani singing contest introduced by the Sabha in 1965 with a view to promote Konkani culture.
Informing this to reporters, Sunil Menezes, General Secretary of the Sabha, said the Sabha founded in 1943 has been contributing towards promoting Konkani drama, art, literature, culture and music and has been responsible for bringing out several talents in the field of singing through its contest.
He said the contest will be held at zonal levels in churches coming under Mangalore diocese and the semi finals and mega finals will be held . The contest first phase will begin at Puttur on May 19, 2013 and conclude with the Episcopal city zone contest on July 21. The semi final of the singing contest for children will be on August 4 , while the semi finals of the seniors category is on August 11. The finals will be on September 15 at Don Bosco Hall. The first three winners will be awarded as also the churches getting the highest scores will be awarded with a permanent rolling shield.
Fr Peter Cyprian D’Souza, President of Konkani Nataka Sabha, Dolphy Saldanha, Vice President, Prem Lobo, Treasurer, were also present.
