26.06.10 Mangalore : Guest lecturers in Govt Colleges who are demanding permanent posts over the years, went on protest from Jyothi Circle in Balmatta at 10.30 today Morning to the gates of DCO, and held a protest rally there.
Some of the lecturers have worked for 10 years but no benefits of permanent service have reached them, they feel insecure with a danger hanging over their heads, and they are not free birds. Their services should be paid on fixed dates, and the payments should be at least half of UGC scales, the speakers at the rally stated. The rally was organised by the Federation of Karnataka state Govt./ Guest lecturers’ Unions, convened by Vinith Kumar who spoke at the rally.
During the last one year or more, the temporary Lecturers’ Unions have been trying to draw the attention of the BJP govt to their sorry plight in state.
But there was no response from the powers that be in the Education (HRD) department. They give a deaf ear to the voices of these lecturers.
President of the rally, Chandrasekhar, said that a whole day is needed to discuss the problems that beset the guest lecturers in order to provide justice to their vocation.
Anand Pujari (Udupi district Union leader) Pradeep Kumar (Mysore chief) and M. Goplakrishna, Honorary chairman and over 50 temporary grade (guest) lecturers participated in their protest rally at DCO gates in rains on Saturday noon.
