Bantwal : Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani on Saturday asked public to send back when Narendra Modi comes to campaign in the State in May. If the Modi does not explain the reasons for not generating two crore jobs a year for youngsters, as he had promised in 2014.
Speaking at the Swabhimani Samavesha organised by the Samvidaana Ulivigagi Karnataka, Mr. Mevani said: “When he comes to campaign here (on May 8), do not send him back empty-handed. If he does not give reasons for not generating jobs, ask him to go back.” Mr. Mevani claimed that Mr. Modi had not generated even 1% of the eight crore jobs that should have been generated in the past four years of BJP governance.
He said Mr. Modi should also assure people of passing an ordinance against the apex court ruling barring immediate arrest of accused in the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. He said the Centre should pass the ordinance in the same way the Congress government had done following the apex court ruling in the Shah Banu Case (favouring an aggrieved divorced Muslim woman) in 1985.
“If he is not talking of this, then the Dalits and Adivasis here should ask Mr. Modi to go back,” he said, and added, “You (Mr. Modi) cannot just garland the statue of Babasaheb Ambedkar and allow dilution of the SC and ST Act.”
Challenging Mr. Modi to an open debate in Karnataka on corruption, Mr. Mevani said he would give a detailed account of the alleged corrupt practices of Mr. Modi during his 22-year rule in Gujarat.
Former Allahabad University Students’ Union president Richa Singh asked the youth of Karnataka to vote responsibly and not allow the BJP to come to power. “You should set an example to stop the political corruption of the BJP.”
