Puttur : Padmavathi (35), a handicapped woman died when she was knocked by a speeding pick-up vehicle  near Mukrumpady on Puttur-Sullia State Highway on August 6.

Padmavathi was running a small stall near the entrance of the KSRTC depot since some years and was leading an independent life. It is learnt she was on way home after closing the stall  when the incident took place. The vehicle did not stop after the accident and the effort to trace it went in vain.

It is learnt, her house was located close by. She was the daughter of late Sheshappa Moolya-Gopi couple of Mukrumpady. The incident occurred at around 8.30 pm. The road was also slushy due to the KSRTC depot works  which too might be one of the reasons for the mishap.

Local police are investigating.
