Udupi: A hanging bridge across River Swarna , considered the second biggest in the state, that linked Uppoor and Heroor villages, collapsed on the night of August 9, Thursday, due to heavy rains, cutting off links between the two places.
The bridge was constructed in 2008 at a cost of Rs 18 lakh as the villagers were in dire need of bridge to cross the river. Owner of Zenith Industries, Bangalore, Vishwanath Sanil had also extended financial aid towards the bridge construction.
Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat who visited the spot has assured sanction of Rs 10 lakhs for the reconstruction of the bridge. He also said he had spoken to the DC on the matter.
Kundapur Assistant Commissioner, Chantharu GP chief Jayanthi Ganiga and members Vasudev Kamath and Dinesh Heroor visited the spot.
