Hyderabad: The Punjab Inspector of Police, off spinner and No.8 player in the Indian Test team, became the only batsman in the world to hit back–to-back centuries in 2 tests against New Zealand cricketers, now touring India, on the 4th morning of second Test in Hyderabad. He was 85 not out on the 9th wicket last night with Kerala’s speed bowler Srishanth as his last partner at 14. Bhajji, as he is fondly known for his pranks in cricket circles, slammed 111 runs form 116 balls he faced, to make a 105 runs 10th wicket partnership (another record), before NZ captain and bowler Daniel Vettori bowled out Srishanth at 472 (all out). The hosts had a lead of 122 runs, which was reduced by 37 runs for no loss by visitors at lunch.
Rahul Dravid called the new hero Harbhajan as another G. Sobers in the making. Srishanth, whom Harbhajan had once slapped in Australia years ago, was now his glorious partner in tests. Harby hit a seventh Sixer on reaching his second century, while Srishanth took body blows before getting out. He also bowled 3 no – bolls at NZ openers.
