Mangalore: 2-day Beary Sammelana organized by the Karnataka Beary Sahithya Academy was inaugurated at Town Hall on Dec 10, Saturday.
Harekala Hajabba released five beary book and inaugurated the event. The five released books are Prof. B. M. Ichlangodu’s Perime, a research work on the Bearys of Tulunadu; Tulunadina Byarigalu, a translation by Tufail Mohammed; The Beary Language by Dr. Sushila P. Upadhyaya; and Beary Baashe, a translation by Dr. Sushila P. Upadhyaya.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that he is an illiterate and came to know its value and importance later, hence worked for the educational institution and give education to children which he could not achieve.
He also said that the local people and Beary community have helped him establish a school and work for society.
He said that education is important for every people in the present day since one cannot earn money without education.
Later Hajabba was conferred with the tittle ‘Akkarada Avadhoota’ in recognition of his contribution towards the field of literacy.
Abdul Rahim Teekay briefed on five books which was released on the occasion.
B. A. Moideen, the former education minister, inaugurated the exhibition, the book stalls, and the food exhibition.
M. B. Abdul Rahman, the founder president of the Kendra Beary Sahithya Parishad welcomed the gathering and Hamza Malar of Vartha Bharathi compered the programme.
The convention continued with the interactive session on Beary Badukina Tallanagalu, presided by Umar T. K. of Bangalore. Attur Cheyabba presented a paper Hamid Pallya of Suvarna TV news channel compeered the programme.
