Mangalore: Harikrishna Punaroor , former president of DK Kannada Sahitya Parishad inaugurated the 2-day state-level Haridasa Sahithya Sammelana organized by the DK Kannada Sahithya Parishad at Town Hall on July 14 Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that after the invention of television, people have no time to listen to dasa keerthana and even worship god. Most them watch crime news in television which creates curiosity and hence number crime also increase.
This programme will encourage the literature lovers and the younger generation to gain some knowledge on dasa sahitya, he said.
Delivering the key note address on the occasion, Dr H S Venkateshmurthy, senior poet said that the critics have not considered the Haridasa Sahitya and Vachana Sahitya as the literature for many years and just considered recently.
Puranadara Dasa and Kanaka Dasa wrote around thousands of keerthanas. But the critic say that people publish keerthanas in the name of two dasa’s to popularize them. Literature criticism is not done with anger, but must be done in cool mind and knowledge, he added.
Sri Vidyateertha Swamiji of Subramanya Mutt released the month news paper ‘Katha Keerthana’.
He said that the keethanas written using good words can be called as sahithya, but words unnecessary used cannot be called as sahithya, he said.
