Bangalore: H.D. Kumaraswamy is copying M. Veerappa Moily who as union Law Minister in 2010-11, had released 850 prisoners from jail for good conduct, for petty offences, or for easing jail space from crowds of jail-birds.
Kumara has written to the state Governor Hans Raj to release such of the prisoners from Central prison(Parappana Agrahara), Bellary, Mysore, Mangalore or other jails in Karnataka, who have been serving long years in jail meekly, for their good conduct and on the humanitarian grounds, by issuing suitable instructions to the ruling Government to this effect.
He accused the BJP of not releasing any prisoner on good conduct during the last 3 to 4 years since 2008. In a letter sent to Governor Bhardwaj he charged BJP rulers of usurping the right for freedom of well behaving prisoners, for which January 26(Republic Day) was the best occasion to release them.
The Governor should issue clear instructions in this connection to the BJP Government he pleaded. To bolster his demand, he reminded the state Governor that when he (HDK) was CM in 2006-07, he had released 300 prisoners on humanitarian grounds.
