Puttur: The Karnataka Forum for Dignity organized a Ramakunja Chalo programme on July 20, Friday wherein Muslim students from various colleges in the district participated and tried to lay siege to the Sri Ramakunjeshwar First Grade College at Ramakunja near Uppinangady which is in the news following the head scarf row.
It may be recalled here that several female students of the college had been on a strike since the past few days urging the management to allow them to classes by wearing headscarves, however the management was firm on its demand and said there was no changing of rules. Meanwhile, reports said several students and their parent s had agreed to abide by the college rules and several agitating students had even begun attending classes on Thursday.
However, the KFD not happy with the developments, organized the protest, in solidarity y with the demand of the students that they should be permitted to attend classes by wearing head scarves.
The agitators tried to storm the college gate as only a handful of cops were present. Finally after a warning from the SP, the agitators left the scene after submitted memorandum to the college authorities at the gate.
Later speaking to the media, the SP Abhishek Goel has said legal action would follow against those who had organized the protest without police consent.
