Mangaluru : The rains continued in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district even on Sunday . Landslides, artificial flood, and rise in water-level of rivers have been reported from various parts of the district.
In the last 24 hours, Moodbidri has received the highest rainfall of 164.4 mm followed by Belthangady—117 mm, Bantwal—87.2 mm, Puttur—72.1 mm, Mangaluru—63.9 mm and Kadaba—59.4 mm.
The Kumaradhara bridge in Subrahmanya is submerged following the downpour.
Owing to heavy rains, many low-lying areas in Kottara, Kodikal, Jeppinamogaru, Padil and Adamkudru have been inundated and landslips have occurred. A bike that was parked on a road was damaged after a hillock caved in at Salethoor Kadumutta near Vittal.
Kottara and Kodikal areas have also been affected by artificial floods. Roads have been flooded in various parts of the Mangaluru city. Flood water entered the house of one Adam at Halekala in Konaje police station limits. Many houses at Millat Nagara in Ullal, Anegundi second Cross in Bejai and houses near Kodikal School have also been flooded.
Rainwater has also flooded Padil overbridge. Owing to lack of stormwater drains, rain water has flooded roads in Subhashnagara, Bhagavathi Nagara, Kodialguthu, KS Rao Road and Kottara causing inconvenience to motorists and residents alike. Many vehicles were seen wading through the flooded roads. The NH 17 was also affected by rains for sometime at Kotekar Beeri. A retaining wall beside the road at Ariga in Kadaba is on the verge of collapse.
Heavy rains inundated Hosmata bridge connecting Uppinangady-Kadaba-Subrahmanya and affected the movement of vehicles. There was about four-ft water on the bridge. Rains have thrown normal life out of gear in Vittal. A road near Aramane Gadde has been flooded. Water from a nearby lake has flooded the town. Houses belonging to Aisamma, Abdulla, Hameed, Vedavathi, Ravi Joshi, Ramanath and Adram in the town have been flooded. Vehicle drivers had a tough time travelling on the water-logged Puttur Road.
Following the uprooting of a tree on Manila-Peruvai Road at Onibagilu, movement of vehicles was disrupted. Vehicular movement on Salethoor-Vittal Road stretch has also been affected has a river is overflowing at Kudthamudige near Kolnadu. The retaining wall of a stormwater drain collapsed on Manila-Pakalakunja Road at Kuntukani. A hillock caved in on the house of one Ibrahim damaging the roof, at Odiyoor in Karopady. Rains have also inundated Chelyadka and Palathoor bridges in Puttur taluk. An ASI attached to Kumble police station in Kasargod district (Kerala) was washed away as Pallathadka bridge was overflowing. The deceased has been identified as Narayana Naik. Flood water has entered houses and petty shops on APMC Road in Puttur.
The water-level of River Netravathi has reached 6.8 metres in Bantwal. Four people were injured after a tree fell on the car they travelling by near Narahari Parvatha.
A house was damaged when a hillock caved in at Abbettu near Farangipete. Low-lying areas in Pavanje and Padupanambur near Haleyangadi have also been inundated.
