Kundapur: Life in Uppoor village in Kundapur has been affected due to extensive floods. Residents of the town feel the problem has not been as grave as this during earlier monsoons.
It is also complained that the highway works has further added to the problem as there is no outlet for the rain water. The flood situation is reported to have worsened on Friday. Schools and colleges across the district have remained closed due to heavy rains.
Water level in most of the rivers are rising and in Kundapur the water level of Panchangangavali is also on the rise. Meanwhile, sea erosion has also intensified in Paduvari, Uppunda, Kodi and other paces. Several houses near Kollur have been reported damaged due to heavy rains.
The house of Sadashiva Poojary in Durga Nagara of Ellooru village was damaged and a pump set belonging to Kolachuru Pade resident Harischandra Rao was destroyed when a tree fell over it. The wall of the house of Sudhakara Naik in Bommarabettu village also collapsed.
A woman, identified as Sakamma Shedthi, aged 55, was drowned after she accidentally slipped into a pond at Devasthanabettu in Beluru village in Kundapur taluk on August 9.
Udupi taluk received a rainfall of 61.3 mm for the last 24 hours. In Shivalli village, the house of Devi Poojarthy was partially damaged when cashew tree fell on the house owing to gusty wind. Udupi district recorded an overall rainfall of 81.63 mm.
