Mangalore: Sudden darkening of the sky, widely spread black clouds, blowing winds, and then the rains from one end of coast to the other.
One may be forgiven if rainy season continues in its seventh month this year form May. The year itself is called ‘Vikriti’ (perverted). The rainy season, and not the humid heat, appears to have taken ever the surroundings which look dark green for miles on end from Ullal to Udupi, over hills and down valleys and up again in distant dales.
There was no rainfall during Dushera festival either in North Kanara, Udupi, DK, Coorg (Kodagu) or Mysore. Rains were spared during Krishna Janmashtami week and Ganesh Puja festivals also, but they (rains) returned soon after. Now after the Tula-Sankramana, the clouds have started to melt in rain forms.
Artificial floods on roads having potholes and breakages is common sight in towns and cities. Drainage work is never done by local municipalities or corporations when water overflows on roads and move to anywhere, roadsides, draining holes or pools.
Mangalore and Udupi cities have had plenty of rains in the evening cool climate, when sun was blazing after 9 a.m to 4 p.m this week. People go through a lot of inconvenience to reach homes, offices workplaces and tourist destinations in such a weather that persists in monetary. Vehicles switch on blinding headlights, abnormally as they please. In Kulur and Bykampady or Bunder areas, the vehicles lines created waiting periods to clear out. Rains fell in Suratkal, Mulky, Kinnigoli, Bajpe, Kateelu and Ullal at nights / mornings.
Those who thought sunshines have returned and dropped their umbrellas / raincoats and cover-ups have regretted their decisions in evening rains that battered them.
Subrahmanya had rains whole day. In Sullya and Bellare, there were clouded dark skies ready to pour. A large tree fell on the main road from Sullya to Subrahmanya, causing traffic disruption for a couple of hours. Local citizens cleared the hurdles by self help and a civic sense.

Several parts in the central area of the city, like Kodialbail, Kodialgutthu, Bharatinagar, Central Market, Carstreet, Alake, Barke, Pragathi Service station near Gujarathi School were flooded in the evening of Thursday and Friday morning, after heavy overnight rain.
Lack of drains further aggravated the citizens woes as roads and houses were inundated in some areas including Jeppinamogaru and Kallapu and low-lying areas of Kodialbail, Attavar and Kottara Chowki also.
Normal life has been thrown out of gear in Udupi district with instances of sea erosion being increasingly reported from Ullal to Udupi.
