London: London’s Fire Brigade says it is responding to reports that a helicopter has crashed near a train station in central London close to the Thames River.
“We’re attending reports of a helicopter crash,” the London fire service said in a statement.
Police said it was too early to say if there were any casualties. “It appears a helicopter was in collision with a crane on top of a building,” London police said.
Sky News said one pilot was on board the helicopter when it crashed into a crane on a building site near Vauxhall train station, a major commuter station on the south side of central London.
A photo shown on Sky News showed wreckage burning in a street. A large plume of black smoke was seen over the Thames River.
Some witnesses reported that a helicopter had collided with a construction crane.
“You can see smoke billowing out just past the bridge,” Robert Oxley, an eyewitness at the scene told Sky News.
There were no immediate reports on casualties.
