Bangalore: BJP Vice-President Hema Malini, and an independent, Prof.K.Marulasiddappa (backed by Congress & JD-S) filed their separate nomination papers today, for the March 4 Rajya Sabha elections from Karnataka State.
BJP has working majority, but it was surprised when a new candidate was filed by the two opposition parties. BJP can collect 107 votes to combined opposition’s 98.
The By-Poll term ends on April 2, 2012, one year hence, as it became necessary on the death of M.Rajashekhar Murthy. The Assembly is truncated with 206 members, 16 BJP members being disqualified out of a total 224.
