The Karnataka High Court has ordered BBMP to raze down the illegal buildings constructed at Raja Canal. The court said that land mafia had wantonly constructed these buidings illegally, to ratify them by the govt. later on. The Raja Canal should be vacated, the order said. A period of 30 days is allotted to BBMP to destroy the illegal constructions. The High Court warned of dire consequences if the time limit given is exceeded by BBMP.
The encroached land by mafia had obstructed drainage water connections. The High Court asked BBMP Commissioner to proceed against illegal land lords, who prevented city drainage works by encroaching and building in illegal ways.
