Mangalore : The Karnataka High Court has stayed the ban on plastics imposed by the Mangalore City Corporation. The stay comes in response to a petition filed by the Canara Plastic Manufacturers and Suppliers Union. The Union has sought that the ban be revoked. It even contended that as per the Plastic Waste Management and Handling Rules, plastic below 40 micron thickness has been banned. The union also requested the court to allow manufacture and sale of plastic above 40 microns.
This court stay is learnt to have been a major blow to the Mangalore City Corporation which was keen on effective implementation of plastic ban.
