Mangaluru : Two Muslim girls have taken no objection certificates and one has been issued with a transfer certificate from University College, Hampankatta.
Anasuya Rai, principal of the college, said that two Muslim girls were given NOC, and one of the girl’s, who conducted the press meet, objecting to the uniform rule at the college, has taken a transfer certificate.
Anasuya added that getting an NOC is the first procedure in order to join other undergraduate colleges. The students who have been issued with NOC, will search for a suitable college. They will be issued with a TC, if any college approves their admission. Among the three, two of them were part of the press meet.
Another girl, who joined the press conferene, has written a letter of apology to the college, and is attending online classes. Anasuya added that classes have been shifted to online mode, and will continue till the completion of the evaluation process. University College, Hampankatta, had 44 Muslim girl students studying in undergraduate courses.
Meanwhile, another Muslim girl studying MSc in chemistry, who hails from Kerala, too has taken a transfer certificate, citing health reasons. Mangalore University vice-chancellor PS Yadapadithaya has already announced that the university will make special arrangements for Muslim girl students, if they are unwilling to adhere to the uniform rule in class, and want to get admitted in other colleges that don’t have such a requirement.
