Mangalore: Members of Hindu Jana Jagriti Samithi converged upon DCO gates to present a public memorandum to the state Governor through the DK Dt. Deputy Commissioner, regarding the shocking amendments made in Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Act 1997, to bring various temples among the thumb of the Karnataka state.
In a speech made at the protest rally near DCO today by K. Laxmisha (secretary), to the protestors, it was, declared that followers of Hindu religion and members of Devasthana and Dharmik Samtha Mahasangh were totally opposed to the amendments to Act being made.
The main speaker Laxmisha K. stated that religion was not at the heart of all Hindu citizens who feel deeply hurt when religious feelings are ruffed by a law that interferes with their way of life.
Hindus, he added, had no compulsion in their faiths, and their religious activities were voluntary. A lot of temples in a dilapidated state have been renovated (Jeernodhara) in recent 10 years, all over Karnataka, some of them even reconstructed in an improved way, architecturally and as per worshippers’ wishes. The public contributed freely to such acts.
Religious issues and beliefs cannot be politicized. But politicians are elected representatives to serve common people in the state, are trying to control temples now.
Former kings used to honour the sentiments of subjects. We cannot remain tolerant anymore when present day ill-informed politicians meddle with temples. They should stop their interference in regard to Hindu temples by making donations and calling tunes of their own in management of Trusts said Lakshmisha Kabaladka in a Speech.
One Parishad cannot control all the Hindu temples, Laxmisha emphatically stated.
Co-ordinator Ramesh Nayak, Laxmisha Kabaladka, Ramananda V., Ms. Suma Mangesh and Ms. Sangeetha Prabhu were present among others,
